Prioritising areas for forest recovery in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest

Through the analysis of scenarios built within PLANGEA, interactions between benefits and costs of Atlantic Forest recovery were described. The simultaneous optimisation scenario presented the second-best result in relation to cost and reduction in species extinction, among other benefits. Only available in Portuguese.

Nature Research Article

Strategic approaches to restoring ecosystems can triple conservation gains and halve costs

This article presented an approach to prioritising areas capable of revealing synergies and trade-offs related to the ecological and economic efficiency of restoration - the PLANGEA. The approach has increased the cost-effectiveness of conserving biodiversity by eight times compared to the baseline scenario.

INCORPORATING WATER SERVICES INTO FOREST RESTORATION SPATIAL PLANNING

In this study we identified priority areas to be restored in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, considering groundwater recharge and water quality improvement, and cost reduction. We adopted the PLANGEA modeling. The results showed that it is possible to improve recharge and water quality, saving up to BRL 53 billion.

Executive Summary

Prioritisation of areas for recovery of native vegetation in the Caatinga

Seeking to base public policies and encourage conservation and restoration actions in order to promote integrated landscape management, IIS used PLANGEA modeling to identify priority areas for the recovery of native vegetation in the Caatinga. The multi-criteria spatial prioritisation resulted in different recovery scenarios considering synergy relationships and trade-offs. Only available in Portuguese.

Prioritisation of areas for recovery of native vegetation in the Pampa

Seeking to base public policies and encourage conservation and restoration actions in order to promote integrated landscape management, IIS used PLANGEA modeling to identify priority areas for the recovery of native vegetation in the Pampa. The multi-criteria spatial prioritisation resulted in different recovery scenarios considering synergy relationships and trade-offs. Only available in Portuguese.
